Benz Sangalang stars in launching movie ‘Boy Kaldag’

VMX is set to deliver a bold and intriguing offering this holiday season with ‘Boy Kaldag’, starring rising actor Benz Sangalang in his first leading role.

Directed by Roman Perez, Jr., the dark comedy is VMX’s Christmas presentation, premiering on December 27, 2024.

Contrary to speculation, ‘Boy Kaldag’ is not a sequel or spin-off of the 1992 cult classic ‘Totoy Mola’. Instead, it introduces a new narrative centered on Dakila “Dax” Dakobuto, a third-generation successor to the Totoy Mola legacy. Known as “Boy Kaldag” due to his viral dance moves and physical attributes, Dax’s life takes a dark turn as he grapples with a bizarre curse: women who become intimately involved with him meet untimely deaths.

At a recent press conference, Benz expressed his gratitude for the opportunity while admitting he feels the pressure of headlining the project.

“Masaya po talaga kaso may tensyon… Sobrang saya ko na nabigyan ng break ng Viva at ni Boss Vic del Rosario. Medyo nape-pressure ako dahil hindi ko alam kung deserve ko talaga,” he said.

When asked about his status as a contender for the title of “Vivamax King,” Benz humbly responded, “Ayoko na pong magsalita tungkol sa Vivamax King issue. Sina Boss na lang po ang tanungin ninyo… Wala po akong karapatan magsabi niyan.”

In portraying Dax, Benz pushed his limits, agreeing to a frontal nudity scene without prosthetics, aligning with the raw and unapologetic tone of the film.

“Gumanda ang buhay ni Dakz dahil sa malaking ari niya, pero may kamalasan dahil namamatay ang mga babae kapag na-i-involve siya,” he explained.

The film also explores Dax’s emotional journey as he reconnects with his childhood crush Bettina, portrayed by Dyessa Garcia. A fateful encounter at her bridal shower sets off a series of life-changing events, unraveling deeper secrets about Dax’s past and his mysterious curse.

Initially, the production team planned for ‘Totoy Mola’ star Jay Manalo to make a special appearance in the film. However, scheduling conflicts prevented his participation. Despite this, Benz expressed confidence that the film’s unique concept and execution would captivate audiences.

With its mix of humor, drama, and a provocative storyline, ‘Boy Kaldag’ is poised to make waves. Don’t miss its premiere on December 27, exclusively on VMX.
