Content creator Christian Antolin has come under fire after releasing parody videos centered on the recent controversy involving Kapamilya stars Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings.
This came in the wake of Maris being accused of having an alleged secret relationship with Anthony, leading to his breakup with his non-showbiz girlfriend, Jamela Villanueva.
While many found humor in Antolin’s spoofs, others criticized his approach as insensitive and exploitative, particularly when compared to fellow creator Davao Conyo, who chose not to capitalize on the issue.
In a Q&A session on Instagram, a netizen urged Davao Conyo (Phillip Hernandez in real life) to make content about the scandal. Instead of indulging the request, Hernandez firmly declined, stating:
“Ante, hindi maganda yang pinagtatawanan ang may pinagdadaanan. Sana di mo ma-experience.”
“Making fun of others for the sake of quick views is one of the lowest forms of content. It’s lazy and malicious.”
Hernandez emphasized that while humor can make situations lighter or hold powerful individuals accountable, targeting someone during a personal crisis crosses the line.
“Shaming a mistake is different from shaming an evil person,” he pointed out.
His response earned widespread praise, with netizens commending him for his sensitivity and discernment.
Despite the criticisms, many of Antolin’s followers defended him, arguing that his content is consistent with his established style of spoofing trending issues.
As of this writing, Christian Antolin has yet to address the backlash. His parody videos, shared on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and Facebook, continue to garner mixed reactions.
Meanwhile, Davao Conyo clarified that his remarks were not directed at any specific individual but were a general statement on content creation ethics.
