Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry Is Most Clutch Player In NBA
There were some people surprised that Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry was selected to the NBA All-Star Game this year. There have been some struggles for him and the Warriors, as Golden State is only 27-26 heading into the break and Curry had some cold drought shooting.
But, his production certainly warranted All-Star consideration. On the season, Curry is averaging 28 points, 5.0 assists and 4.4 rebounds in 33.5 minutes per game. Things haven’t come as easily for him this season as in years past, as the supporting cast around him has been suspect at times.
Despite that, he has still performed at a high level. Right before the All-Star break, Curry made NBA history, becoming the first player to make 7+ three-pointers in four consecutive games. It was a much-needed performance as Golden State is adjusting to Klay Thompson’s new role coming off the bench.
With so many adjustments being made, having Curry performing at a high level will make the transition smoother. He has continued lighting it up from deep this season, as his 250 3-pointers are leading the NBA and are 69 clear of second place.
Curry has also remained an excellent player in the clutch when the Warriors need him most. As shared by John Schuhmann of NBA.com, the future Hall of Famer has continued coming up big in the most clutch moments this season.
“Has scored 162 points with the score within five points in the last five minutes, 54 more than any other player. His 28 clutch 3-pointers are 18 more than any other player has made, and his 28-for-58 (48.3%) on clutch 3s is the second-best mark among 14 players who’ve attempted at least 20. His 32-for-33 (97.0%) on clutch free throws is also the best mark among 26 players who’ve attempted at least 20,” wrote Schuhmann.
When the Warriors need a basket, they are still going to Curry and more often than not, he is delivering. When in the final minute of the game, Curry also leads the NBA with nine baskets to tie or take the lead.
Turning 36 years old in March, he is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. That is good news for Golden State, as Curry has two years remaining on the extension that he signed in 2021.
