Mark Wahlberg’s long-awaited reboot of Six Million Dollar Man is finally beginning to move in the right direction.
The project has faced delays and changes in directors but is now moving forward with David Ellison at the helm.
Wahlberg remains committed to making the film happen and credits his recent movie, The Family Plan , for helping progress the project.
Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg offered a promising update on his long-gestating reboot of the Six Million Dollar Man. Speaking with Screen Rant, Wahlberg said that they now have “the rights again,” for the property, with the actor revealing that his age (he is currently 52) will be a factor in the movie, which is now expected to be titled The Six Billion Dollar Man.
“We’ve got the rights again, we’re looking at making that movie – hopefully soon! Again, ticking clock. Thank God, it’s an older guy who they feel like has some real-life experience that makes it worth it for him to be the subject of this experiment.”
The Six Billion Dollar Man (six million dollars won’t buy you the advanced super-human it once did) has been in development for some time. The project has gone through its fair share of director over the years, including Wahlberg’s frequent collaborator and Lone Survivor director Peter Berg and Bumblebee director Travis Knight.
The reboot of the 1970s action franchise is now set to be helmed by David Ellison, who is best known for producing such major action movie hits as Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, and Top Gun: Maverick.
Superheroes have truly taken the world by storm this century, but last century began the gradual trend with some classic television shows.
Airing from 1973 to 1978, the original Six Million Dollar Man follows Lee Majors as ace pilot Steve Austin who, after being fatally injured in an airplane crash, is rebuilt when the government spends six million dollars on bionic implants, giving Austin superhuman abilities. He is then sent on various missions in the name of national security as a secret agent.
The Six Billion Dollar Man will no doubt follow a similar story to the 70s series, with Wahlberg needing six billion dollars to bring him back to life and imbue him with superhuman strength, speed and vision.

Last year, Wahlberg offered another positive update on the development of The Six Billion Dollar Man, noting that his and producer David Ellison’s recent action comedy, The Family Plan, may have helped finally get things off the ground.
“You know what, I think there is finally hope for that to happen. And I think it’s kind of actually a lot to do with this movie, because hopefully Skydance will have the rights, if not fully buttoned up now, very soon, and we’ll fast track that movie to get made. So, I’m still not out of the fight, I’m still grinding every day to get it made. You know, its tough to get certain things made it’s very difficult, it was an uphill battle, but I think certain ones are worth just seeing through to the end.”
Mark Wahlberg can next be seen starring in the adventure flick, Arthur the King. Based on an incredible true story, Arthur the King follows Wahlberg as Michael Light, the captain of an adventure racing team who forges a bond with a scrappy street dog companion dubbed Arthur.
