Nicolas Cage says he believed he was an alien when he was a child.

The Con Air star was talking to Rampstyle magazine when he made the confession while discussing his socially awkward childhood.

Cage said: “My father told me he felt like he had to introduce himself to me because I was such an alien.”

He added: “I was shocked the day I went to the doctor’s office as a child and I found out that I had normal organs and a normal skeleton because I was certain I was from another planet.”

Cage’s father is the academic August Coppola who was the basis for his performance as Balthazar in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. They are part of the Coppola family that includes Cage’s uncle Francis Ford Coppola and aunt Talia Shire.

Cage has made a comeback in recent years after a decade of financial problems.

He received acclaim for his performance in indie drama Pig where he played a truffle hunter who goes in search of his beloved pig after it is kidnapped. Cage also starred in the meta action-comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent as a fictionalised version of himself. The film signalled Cage’s return to mainstream Hollywood and he has since been announced to star in 2023’s Renfield as Count Dracula alongside Nicholas Hoult and Awkwafina.
