Keanu Reeves’s Role in The Matrix Franchise Was First Offered To Sandra Bullock
The creators of the $1.7 billion franchise The Matrix had once offered the role of Neo played by Keanu Reeves to superstar Sandra Bullock. While Reeves nailed the role in The Matrix with his outstanding acting skills, he was never the first choice of the creators.
As per the reports, many A-listed stars like Will Smith, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Nicolas Cage were approached by Warner Bros before Reeves but all of these actors turned down the role for some or the other reasons.

Apart from all of these stars, reports have been around that even Sandra Bullock had once been offered the role by Warner Bros. At that time Bullock was a rising star with back-to-back hits with movies like Speed and A Time To Kill, and after being rejected by many A-listed stars the makers of the franchise decided to alter the character of Neo to be a woman so that they could land Bullock for the role.

Talking about this in an interview with Screen Rant, Reeves said, “Our hope is that people like it. We’ve been trying to have action and also have drama and things to think about. [We want to] be intellectually interesting, logistically engaging, and exciting. And then hopefully have some pathos and love. We’re trying to have the full buffet of storytelling, and hopefully, people find it engaging. I will say that we’ve tried to make it propulsive.”
Along with starring and producing the series, reports have been around that Reeves will also be lending his voice to the character B, who is said to be a half-human and half-god in the anime series.
The movie is said to be released in mid-2024.
