FRANCE-PORTUGAL: “WE ARE GOING TO WAR”, CRISTIANO RONALDO LAUNCHES THE DUEL AGAINST THE BLUES
Cristiano Ronaldo has opened the Euro quarter-final between France and Portugal, saying the encounter would be a “war” for the Seleção.
After the tears, then the euphoria of victory, Cristiano Ronaldo closes ranks. Coming out of the victory on penalties against Slovenia (0-0, 3-0 on penalties), the Portugal striker spoke about the duel scheduled for Friday against France in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.
“We are going to have a difficult match against France, who are favourites in this competition, with Germany and Spain, and we are going to war,” Cristiano Ronaldo first declared on Monday evening.
“I’ve never been afraid to take matters into my own hands”
“The team is doing well, it’s been a breath of fresh air and I’m always going to give my best with this jersey. I’m going to do this all my life, I’ve been doing it for 20 years,” he also said, referring to the difficulties in snatching qualification against Slovenia. “I missed the penalty, but I wanted to be the first to score, because you have to take responsibility. I’ve never been afraid to take things seriously and I’ll never give up,” he added.
The France-Portugal match, or rather officially Portugal-France according to the UEFA table, is scheduled for Friday, July 5 at 9 p.m. The Volksparkstadion in Hamburg will be the venue for this match. The winner will face the winner of the confrontation between Spain and Germany, scheduled just before the same day, at 6 p.m.
