MANILA (UPDATED) — Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo has broken his silence regarding issues surrounding his family.
In a TikTok video posted Tuesday, Yulo urged his mother, Angelica Poquiz Yulo, to move past issues, which involve the latter allegedly taking his incentives after winning in a competition.
According to the younger Yulo, he just wanted to know where his hard-earned money went.

Yulo also came to the defense of his girlfriend, Chloe San Jose, who was allegedly branded as “red flag” by his mother.
Caloy asserted that his partner would not wind up his money because she has a job, and further revealed that the mother has access to his bank accounts.
The Olympian claimed that his mother blamed Chloe for “misunderstandings” within the family—to which he affirmed.
Yulo said he stayed in their relationship despite lingering family issues because he liked Chloe.
— ‘Mag-heal kayo’ —
Yulo also discussed his mother’s alleged lack of sincerity towards him.
Yulo urged his mother to move past issues and said that he had already forgiven her.
Napatawad ko na kayo a long time ago po. Pinagpe-pray ko na maging safe kayo palagi at nasa maayos kayong kalagayan diyan lahat,” he said.
Furthermore, the acclaimed gymnast said it is time to celebrate the feats of Filipino athletes in Paris.
In an interview on Sunday, after Carlos won his first gold in the Paris Games, the Yulo matriarch denied the accusations thrown at her and asserted that she has proof to dispel them.
Yulo’s mom said the allegations on social media and the rift with her son has hurt her.
Through Atty. Raymond Fortun, Angelica urged the public to avoid sharing comments and libelous statements against Carlos that are attributed to the mother’s interviews.
In a statement, Fortun said all statements attributed to Mrs. Yulo and/or her children, that are “critical of, disparaging or tend to tarnish the accomplishments of her son” are “untrue, fake, and mere products of imagination and fantasy by heretofore unknown individuals.”
— Family rift —
Speaking on TeleRadyo on Tuesday afternoon, Fortun acknowledged that there is a rift between Carlos and his mother, but also noted that the issue is “actually pretty ordinary.”
“What is that [the issue]? Pera, and No. 2, ‘yung girlfriend ng anak … Ang mga mothers, parati namang merong issue sa girlfriend ng anak,” he said.
Fortun said the issue has blown up because of “netizens” who are sharing what he insists are fake posts attributed to the Yulo matriarch.
“Ulitin ko, ‘wag na sanang ungkatin, we should all be instead be focusing on the fact that Caloy has indeed brought so much honor and glory for the country. Dapat we should all be wait na lang expectantly for his return and give him a hero’s welcome. Ang nangyayari, ang pinagtutuunan ng pansin ay yung away ng mag-ina, which is something pretty ordinary,” he added.
“They have a family rift, but walang imposible na hindi kayang ayusin ng pagmamahal ng pamilya.”
The issue between Carlos and his mother made the rounds on social media in the wake of the gymnast’s victory in the Paris Olympics, where he won both the vault and floor exercise in men’s artistic gymnastics.
He is the first Filipino athlete to win two Olympic gold medals, and the first to win multiple medals in a single Games.
Angelica Yulo is set to face the media in a press conference on Wednesday morning.
