COPA AMERICA: AFTER THEIR TITLE, ARGENTINE PLAYERS SANG RACIST CHANT AGAINST THE FRENCH AND MBAPPÉ
On the sidelines of their Copa America victory celebrations, the Argentinians sang a racist chant against Kylian Mbappé and the French. The scene, captured in a live on Enzo Fernandez’s social networks, was quickly cut.
This is starting to look like a very bad habit. Victorious in the Copa America on Sunday evening against Colombia, Argentina kept its title in the South American competition. In 2021, it won the tournament, more than a year before its World Cup victory against France. Precisely, it was the French who were “tackled” by the Argentinian players during the last festivities. Or rather insulted.
In November 2022, right at the start of the World Cup in Qatar, images broadcast on Argentinian television showed Albiceleste supporters singing racist chants against the French team and Kylian Mbappé , in particular mocking the latter’s African origins. It was this song that was taken up by the Argentinian players, as shown in a scene that took place in a live on Enzo Fernandez’s social networks.
Enzo Fernandez cut his live show off just as the song started
Probably sensing controversy or understanding that these images should not be found on social networks, Enzo Fernandez cut the live at the moment when his teammates were starting to sing. Except that the first words were heard.
After the victory in the last World Cup, the Argentinians had already teased the French, sometimes excessively. Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez , one of the heroes of this victory, had made an impression by performing an obscene celebration. In their locker room, the Albiceleste players also attacked Kylian Mbappé. A year and a half later, this match won against the French seems to have remained in people’s minds, with this unworthy chant taken up even by the players.
