European giants step up attempts to steal Julian Alvarez from Man City in stunning transfer

Julian Alvarez has been linked with a move away from Manchester City.

Julian Alvarez is reportedly edging closer to a potential exit from Manchester City.

Back in January 2022, it was confirmed that Argentine forward Alvarez had signed for Premier League giants City from River Plate for a reported fee of £14 million.

Since then, the 24-year-old has scored 36 goals in 103 appearances across all competitions for the Etihad club.

The Argentine has also got his hands on two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, a Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

However, Alvarez’s minutes have been limited due to Erling Haaland, who is often Pep Guardiola’s first-choice striker.

With the summer transfer window now open, Alvarez has been linked with a move away from City.

As reported by journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid have advanced in their bid to sign Alvarez.

It has also been said that the forward is willing to leave City in order to play more frequently.

Merlo wrote: “[EXCLUSIVE] Atlético Madrid advanced for Julián Álvarez. There are already negotiations for the Argentine national team forward.

“He is willing to leave Manchester City because he wants a greater role.”

Aside from Atletico, the likes of Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain have also been linked with a move for the forward.

Over the weekend, Alvarez won another trophy as he helped Argentina clinch the 2024 Copa America.

Lautaro Martinez’s goal in the 112th minute was enough for Argentina to seal a 1-0 win over Colombia at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Alvarez has now won four trophies on the international stage, two Copa America titles, the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions in 2022.

Heading into the new season, Alvarez is not the only City player that has been linked with a move away.

The likes of Ederson and Bernardo Silva have also been linked with other clubs.
