FRANCE-SPAIN: WHY CUCURELLA IS BOOED BY THE PUBLIC DURING THE EURO SEMI-FINAL

Starting on the left of the Spanish defense this Tuesday during the Euro 2024 semi-final against France, Marc Cucurella is whistled by part of the crowd. The reason? The German supporters have not forgotten his handball that was not whistled in the area during the quarter-final.

The Germans have not forgotten. After the elimination in the quarter-finals of the Euro against Spain (2-1) , some of the German supporters remember Marc Cucurella’s handball in his area that was not whistled on a shot by Jamal Musiala. As a reprisal, the fans of the Mannschaft present at the Allianz Arena for the semi-final between France and Spain whistled copiously at the Spanish full-back each time he touched the ball.

A petition was launched after the quarter-final

In response to the controversial action and the performance of referee Anthony Taylor, more than 36,000 people signed a petition to have the quarter-final between Germany and Spain replayed.

According to these supporters, the English referee has already “been criticised by another referee for his bias towards Spain”. They are asking UEFA “to replay the match, investigate Anthony Taylor’s lack of neutrality and punish him”.
