Leny Yoro injury: Man Utd confirm length of absence as £52m defender undergoes surgery on foot injury

Manchester United have confirmed new signing Leny Yoro has had ‘successful surgery’ on his foot injury.

WHAT HAPPENED?

United paid Lille £52 million ($68m) last month but less than a fortnight after signing for the club, he picked up a foot issue in a pre-season match against Arsenal. Now, the club have confirmed his operation went well and will be back in ‘around three months’.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Yoro was a statement signing for United, particularly as they beat Real Madrid to his signature. However, his injury is a big blow to them and it may have been keenly felt during the rest of a difficult pre-season campaign. That has heightened the need for more reinforcements in that area of the pitch, with the Red Devils chasing Bayern Munich defensive duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

The 6ft 3in Yoro had a breakthrough season for Lille last term, making 44 appearances in all competitions and scoring three goals along the way. The France Under-21 international will hope he can have an instant impact at Old Trafford upon his return from injury.

Yoro’s United side return to action on Saturday against rivals Manchester City at Wembley in the Community Shield, before they begin their 2024-25 Premier League season at home to Fulham on August 16.
