Lionel Messi, who suffered a right ankle injury during the Copa America final won by Argentina, will miss Inter Miami’s upcoming matches.

Lionel Messi, who injured his ankle in the Copa America final , will miss (at least) the next two matches of his club, Inter Miami, his coach Gerardo Martino said on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old former PSG player went off injured (64th minute) in his right ankle during Argentina’s 2-1 victory against Colombia on Sunday.

More exams to come

“There will be new tests to assess the severity of the injury,” said Gerardo Martino. The “pulga” will certainly miss Inter Miami’s match on Wednesday against Toronto FC as well as Saturday’s match against Chicago Fire.

In a medical statement published a little later, Inter Miami mentioned “ligamentous injury”, suggesting that the injury was more serious than expected.

With 14 wins, Inter Miami is second in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer, one point behind Cincinnati (48 pts) which crushed (6-1) the Florida club on July 6.
