OM: MASON GREENWOOD’S RESPONSE TO CRITICISM SURROUNDING HIS SIGNING

Votre programme dans un instant

Presented this Friday by Olympique de Marseille, Mason Greenwood was questioned about his past extra-sporting setbacks and the questions surrounding his transfer. The new striker of the Marseille club briefly answered and hopes to live in serenity with his partner and their daughter.

A former great hope of English football, Mason Greenwood must still, for the moment, shake off the reputation that accompanies him after past accusations of domestic violence (the charges were dropped) against him. Still in a relationship with his partner at the time, the new OM striker explained during his presentation how his family had been able to rebuild itself last season in Spain during his loan to the Madrid club Getafe.

“In my personal life, I simply went to Madrid last season and it was really, really good with my partner and my little girl,” assured the new offensive recruit of the Marseille team this Friday. “We were very happy in Madrid. We felt at home. Getafe was an excellent club, Madrid is a wonderful city, as is Marseille by the way.”

“I already feel at home here”

Warmly welcomed by OM supporters on Wednesday, Mason Greenwood was also supported by Pablo Longoria , who indicated that the English player was now in line with the club’s values. The English international (one selection) is in any case already under the spell of the Phocaean city.

“I know you all live in Marseille so I expect the city to be as magnificent as Madrid. You can see that Marseille is an extraordinary city, as are the club’s facilities, the training centre, the team and my teammates,” added Mason Greenwood during his press presentation. “Even though I’ve only been here for a few days, I already feel at home here.”

Greenwood wants to focus on football, only football

Even though the city’s mayor, Benoît Payan , did not really appreciate Mason Greenwood’s arrival at OM, the 22-year-old striker intends to leave behind him and his loved ones this story which tarnished the start of his career.

“I understand the questions, I don’t want to talk about it too much or get into debates and controversies. I already talked about it on Thursday with the supporters and I talked about it last season,” the former Manchester United player finally indicated. “I want to move forward, I want to be part of Olympique de Marseille. I want me, my partner and my little girl to be happy in Marseille. My intention is really to focus on the football part.”

Avoid talking too much about the past in order to move forward, that is the hope of Mason Greenwood and OM . So much so that the media’s insistence on the Marseille recruit may have created some tension during his presentation. As for the athlete, the Englishman seems to have lost none of his talent, his season at Getafe confirmed it, and he is impatient to show it in Ligue 1.
