The Arsenal manager has been urged by Morgan to make a move for one of the Euro 2024’s star performers

Mikel Arteta has been told by Piers Morgan to sign Spanish winger Nico Williams off his scintillating Euros display.

Morgan, who is a notoriously big fan of Arsenal, was just as wowed as every fan when watching Williams in action against Georgia in their Euro 2024 round of 16 tie on Sunday evening. The winger has been linked with a move to London rivals Chelsea, and has seen his stock soar after back-to-back eye-catching performances.

One of the clubs most notable fans has now urged Arteta to take action and secure the services of one of European football’s hottest commodities – and he did so with just two words. Whether Arteta will listen, however, remains another matter.

There was no beating around the bush when Morgan took to X on Sunday night on the back of Spain’s impressive victory. He simply posted a picture of Williams captioned with: “Sign him,” and tagged Arsenal boss Arteta.

The 21-year-old Spanish winger, who currently plays for Athletic Club in La Liga, had attracted interest prior to this summer’s premier international tournament but has since boosted said admiration. In tandem with fellow starlet, Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, Williams became the only player since 1980 to start, score and assist a goal as well as complete 100% of his passes in the Georgia clash.

Nico and his brother Inaki have been involved with Athletic Club since their youth, but the former is set to move on to further successes this summer. Chelsea have shown concrete interest in the winger, whose contract contains a £49million release clause, but have yet to activate said clause or progress with negotiations.

Arsenal have also been named as another suitor for Williams, who has chosen not to acknowledge any links thus far, focusing on his European Championship form. Chelsea are the side more in need of a spark, as well as goals, with only Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson netting double figures in the league last season, and Raheem Sterling seemingly entering the latter stages of his career.

The Gunners in the other hand do have a formidable forward line, but a player like Williams would be an aid in catching the seemingly unstoppable Manchester City juggernaut. Morgan clearly thinks that Arsenal should pounce at any chance they may get to sign the youngster, but it remains to be seen where he’ll end up when the summer window concludes.
