Real Madrid make unprecedented transfer decision that is nightmare scenario for Premier League sides

Real Madrid have decided on an unprecedented change to their transfer policy this summer – and it could be the worst possible news for several Premier League clubs.

Los Blancos have already been busy this summer, completing one of the most high-profile free transfers in history by signing Kylian Mbappe.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side will also welcome wonderkid Endrick to their squad next week once the Brazilian turns 18.

Their transfer activity this summer will in part have been fuelled by the departures of veteran players Nacho Fernandez and Toni Kroos – the latter of whom has retired from professional football.

Lucas Vasquez is also a free agent as things stand, although the 33-year-old has indicated his desire to stay at the Bernabeu.

In terms of incomings, Real have been heavily linked with the signing of France defender Leny Yoro, who reportedly would prefer a move to the reigning Champions League winners over other options.

The issue is that Los Blancos are yet to table an offer to the 18-year-old’s current club Lille. Manchester United, however, have done so, with Lille accepting a £42 million proposal earlier in the week.

Yoro now has to choose between United and Real, with the French club understandably believed to want Yoro to accept the offer from Erik ten Hag’s side for the defender, who only has 12 months left on his contract.

While that tug-of-war continues, the Spanish giants have reportedly adopted a new transfer strategy that could be a hammer blow to other clubs.

Relevo reporter Javier Rodriguez Pascual has claimed that Los Blancos will monitor the Olympics as part of their new club transfer strategy this summer.

Crucially, it is added that they will not focus on the ongoing Euro 2024 and Copa America, where most other clubs will be scanning for players.

The men’s and women’s football tournaments will take place in Paris this summer, showcasing the best under-21 talent from the qualified nations.

Originally, Yoro was due to play in the Olympics after being picked in the France squad by Thierry Henry, but Lille withdrew him amid the ongoing transfer negotiations.

Although the men’s tournament is missing some major nations such as Brazil, England, Germany and Italy, there are still a number of hot prospects that Real will doubtless be keen to watch in Paris.

The France trio of Castello Lukeba, Desire Doue and Manu Kone have been tracked by Premier League clubs including Manchester United and Chelsea, while the likes of Argentina and Spain have a number of wonderkids among their rosters.

Any hint of serious interest from Real – as seen in the recent cases of Jude Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni and Arda Guler – can be enough for players to choose them ahead of Premier League clubs, and with a specialised focus on the Olympics, you can almost guarantee that Los Blancos will have a close eye on the top talents in Paris moving forward.
