Xavi Simons makes shock transfer decision that nobody saw coming amid Arsenal and Man Utd links

The 21-year-old midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Xavi Simons has made a decision regarding his next move, according to a new report – and it may come as a surprise to many.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at RB Leipzig, has been linked with a move away from Paris this summer, with a host of Europe’s elite interested in his signature.

At one stage, it looked like Bayern Munich were close to securing a permanent transfer for the Netherlands international, who featured heavily at Euro 2024.

In fact, after notching 10 goals and 13 assists across all competitions last season, Bayern reportedly agreed personal terms with Simons’ representatives ahead of negotiations with PSG.

He also attracted interest from Premier League clubs Manchester United and Arsenal but on Monday morning, it emerged that Simons has decided to stay at Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

That’s according to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, who says Simons will sign a new one-year loan deal with Leipzig following his impressive campaign at the Red Bull Arena.

“No transfer to FC Bayern,” Plettenberg wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “All parties involved are now informed about it. Therefore, Max Eberl now trying to sign Désiré Doué.”

He added: “Leipzig and Paris are finalizing the last details for a new loan of Xavi now. New one-year-deal with RB will happen.”

As mentioned earlier, Simons has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.

In fact, Sir Jim Ratcliffe reportedly gave the ‘go-ahead’ for a deal to happen as they continue their rebuild, and a sum of £84 million was mentioned by Spanish publication SPORT.

Arsenal were also among the clubs battling for Simons’ signature but it appears RB Leipzig will enjoy his presence for another season as he prepares to join up with another sought after youngster, Benjamin Sesko.

Back in February, Simons opened up about his time at the Bundesliga club. “I’m improving myself. I needed a club that would help me to improve my progression,” he said.

“I’m 20 years old, I know I can do a lot of things better, but yes, I just wanted to be competing every week against the best. I’m playing in the Bundesliga and the Champions League, so I cannot prefer another stage, I would say.”
