Messi was scolded as a ‘coward’

Brazilian journalist Milly Lacombe has attacked superstar Lionel Messi after he gave his reaction to Argentina U23’s defeat in their opening match at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Against Morocco, coach Javier Mascherano’s Argentina lost 1-2 . Notably, Argentina’s equalizer at 90+16 was disallowed by VAR due to offside, and the match had to be stopped for 2 hours for security reasons before the players returned to the field for the remaining 3 minutes.

Immediately after the match, Messi posted a short status on his personal Instagram story with the content: “Unusual”. The owner of 8 Golden Balls was clearly not satisfied with this result.

However, speaking to UOL Esporte about Messi’s reaction, journalist Lacombe was scathing: “Messi rushed to social media during the holidays to express his anger at the referee at the Olympics, and he was also the one who remained silent when his teammates sang a racist song after the Copa America championship. Is there such a coward?

Not sure if Messi was there or if he sang, but it doesn’t matter. Messi is the greatest player in the world, the absolute leader of this team and he needs to speak out officially and loudly. But no, Messi is silent. He is a coward. He becomes small.”

Not long ago, midfielder Rodrigo De Paul said that Messi warned Argentina players to avoid racism but they still committed the same mistake in his absence.

“After Argentina won the 2024 Copa America, Messi continued to say that the team must not mock any opponent. He wanted us to just celebrate and enjoy our victory,” the Atletico star shared.
