The Carolina Panthers have shaken up their front office under first-year GM Dan Morgan following the 2024 NFL Draft.

According to a report from Joseph Person of The Athletic, the Carolina Panthers have fired director of pro scouting Rob Hanrahan and assistant director of pro scouting Tyler Ramsey. Per the Panthers’ team website, Hanrahan and Ramsey had spent seven and three years with the organization, respectively.

After three years on the job, the Panthers fired GM Scott Fitterer and replaced him with Morgan, who played linebacker for the organization from 2001 to 2007. The 2004 Pro Bowler was Fitterer’s assistant GM before being promoted to the GM chair.

The Panthers made sweeping changes following a disappointing 2-15 finish that saw them cough up the first overall pick of 2024 (Caleb Williams) to the Chicago Bears. Owner David Tepper hired ex-Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales as the new head coach.

Brad Idzik, who spent the 2023 season as the Bucs’ wide receivers coach, was hired to serve as Carolina’s new offensive coordinator under Canales. Defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero was retained by Canales.

Since Tepper took over as Carolina’s owner in 2018, the franchise has failed to win more than seven games in a season. They’re 31-68-0 under Tepper, who’s already on his seventh head coach (including interims) in Canales.

Carolina Panthers Have Had An Encouraging Offseason

The Panthers had to start afresh as GM and head coach, and as OTAs inch closer, it’s hard not to like the moves Morgan and Canales have made so far.

Carolina’s main priority was fixing up the supporting cast around Bryce Young, and they’ve landed two stud receivers in Diontae Johnson (acquired via trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers) and Xavier Legette (the No. 32 pick). Morgan also drafted Texas running back Jonathan Brooks and Longhorns tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders, both of whom could be day one starters.
