Former Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton had a historic NFL career in the relatively short period he played in the league, and he hasn’t stopped making headlines since.

Newton was recently on Shannon Sharp’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast to discuss multiple things with the NFL Hall of Famer, including his college career. Newton made a shocking accusation about a former SEC head coach

The former Auburn signal caller opened up about how former Mississippi State Bulldogs head coach Dan Mullen harbored resentment towards the then-21-year-old for committing to the Tigers rather than the Bulldogs.

He accused Mullen of creating the scandal by being the “two resources [who] said that Cam Newton and his father took money to go to Auburn.” Newton pointed to the fact that it was Mullen and his wife while talking with Sharpe.

Newton continued to slam the former SEC head coach by talking about an encounter they had after the 2010 Week 2 meeting between Auburn and Mississippi State, in which Newton came out victorious. Newton pointed out that the rumors circulated two weeks after the game.

The former NFL quarterback also added that it helped him in his college career and challenged his focus, stating, “I surprised myself with the measure of focus I had to go through.” The focus may have aided the former Panthers and Patriots quarterback in making the NFL, where he would end up playing in a Superbowl.

Newton’s NFL career was successful, at least during his first seven seasons with the Panthers. His NFL totals saw him put up 32,382 yards and 194 touchdowns through 148 games, 144 of which he was named the starter.

It is safe to say that Newton has suffered a lot not only in his NFL career but also in his college days. His success does not go unnoticed, though, as he continues to be praised as one of the most innovative quarterbacks ever seen.
