The Kapamilya drama series, joins the highly-hyped and budgeted Kapuso historical drama, on Friday, August 30.

While ABS-CBN’s Lavender Fields and GMA Network’s Pulang Araw are not going head-to-head on regular television, the two series are set to wrestle each other over Netflix Philippines domination.

Pulang Araw continues its victorious inclusion in the top 10 most streamed TV shows on Netflix Philippines, but it has notably slipped in ranking from the top spot to now just fourth. As Lavender Fields, a revenge action-drama that promises mindblowing surprises and dark twists, the Kapuso series faces a major threat, one that coupd further push it to lower ranking. Pulang  Araw, it can be noted, is also struggling to inch closer to its timeslot rival on primetime, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, with the Coco Martin-starrer, regularly beating the Kapuso show by more than twice its people ratings.

Pulang Araw, which is highly promoted by GMA Network as the biggest historical drama of 2024, is inspired by the events of the Japanese occupation in the Philippines, during World War II. The series gathered some of the network’s biggest stars, including Alden Richards, Barbie Forteza, and Dennis Trillo, making it also the most star-studded Kapuso show of the year.

Lavender Fields, meanwhile, marks the primetime comeback of the Asian Drama King and Gawad Urian 2013 Best Actor, Jericho Rosales. The series, which has Asian Academy Creative Awards 2022 Best Actress, Jodi Sta. Maria, in the title role, features a woman hellbent to exact her revenge against her oppressors, as she also finds a way to redemption. The series marks Janine Gutierrez’s third full-length primetime series, after starring ‘Marry Me, Marry You, in 2021, and Dirty Linen in 2023.

The stellar cast of Lavender Fields, also star some of Philippine entertainment’s drama icons, including Maricel Soriano, Albert Martinez, and Edu Manzano.
