Former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms has opened up on his surprise departure from CBS Sports, where he spent 26 years as an analyst following his playing career.

“The NFL Today” lineup will bring back James Brown, former NFL wide receiver Nate Burleson and Hall of Fame head coach Bill Cowher. As for Esiason, he’ll continue working with Gregg Giannotti on their popular “Boomer and Gio” New York sports radio program.

Simms addressed his departure from CBS Sports during a new interview with Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports. Simms stated that he understands the trend of businesses replacing veteran talents with younger personalities:

“Like people say, they’re always looking for the next person. I’ve heard they like young people, too. O.K…Whatever the bosses want, that’s what they do. And I understand that.”

In the interview with McCarthy, Phil Simms also stated that he’ll focus on the “Simms Complete” podcast that he co-hosts with son and former NFL QB, Matt Simms. Phil also said that Esiason will appear on their podcast.
