He was the league’s MVP in 1969 and was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 1973. A four-time Pro Bowler, Gabriel led the league in passing yards in 1969 and 1973.

Gabriel is one of three former NFL quarterbacks who have died this year.

Norm Snead, a former Pro Bowler who also played for the Eagles, died in January at 84.

Former Denver Broncos QB Steve Tensi died in March at the age of 81.
