The Washington Commanders need a quarterback, and they hold the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. It’s not hard to see what position they are vying for, but the only thing that remains unknown is who they will go with.

Drake Maye’s chances of being chosen by the Washington Commanders at No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft took a slight shot as Adam Schefter thinks he knows where the Washington Commanders are leaning with the No. 2 pick.

On his latest podcast, the ESPN insider said that the Chicago Bears will clearly take USC quarterback Caleb Williams at No. 1. He then spoke on the Washington Commanders and added he’s “not supposed to spoil picks” before declaring that it’s “hard for me” to see Washington passing on LSU Tigers star QB Jayden Daniels.

“I think the signs continue to point to Jayden Daniels being the second overall pick,” Schefter said. “Seems like he’s popular in the scouting community. Seems like he would bring a lot of the attributes that the Commanders would like.”

Just last month, we saw Jayden Daniels speaking to reporters when cameras panned over to Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn who could be seen pointing at the quarterback and smiling as he was seemingly saying that he was their guy.

Many mock drafts, including CBS Sports mock draft, have either North Carolina’s Drake Maye or LSU’s Jayden Daniels going at No. 2.

Whether it is Maye or Daniels, the Commanders’ pick will likely be their starter this season as they have Marcus Mariota as a member of their quarterback room.

Washington Commanders’ Future Depends On The Right QB Selected in The 2024 NFL Draft

The Commanders badly need to get their No. 2 pick in the draft correct because it will either set them up perfectly for the future or further set them back in this current rebuild.

The last time the team had a Pro Bowler at the quarterback position was back in 2016 with Kirk Cousins.
