The New England Patriots reportedly received several lucrative offers for the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft…but they couldn’t be swayed.

As many expected, the New England Patriots used the No. 3 pick of the 2024 NFL Draft on North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye. The ex-Tar Heel was taken after Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels went first and second overall to the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders, respectively.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Patriots received several offers for the No. 3 pick. Rapoport believes that the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants both “made one last ditch effort to” acquire the pick, but the Pats stayed put and selected Maye.

Despite reports suggesting that they wanted a QB, the Giants wound up taking LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick. The Vikings acquired the No. 10 pick from the New York Jets and selected Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy.

New England Patriots de facto general manager Eliot Wolf previously stated that his team was open to dealing the No. 3 selection. But ultimately, the rebuilding Patriots just couldn’t pass on the opportunity to draft a potential franchise signal-caller.

New England Patriots Made The Right Call

The New England Patriots could have traded the pick to secure additional draft capital, but Wolf and head coach Jerod Mayo ultimately made the right decision here.

There is no guarantee that New England will be in a spot to take an elite QB prospect like Maye again. Quarterback is the most important position in the game, and Maye has the skill set to turn this franchise around.

Coming off a third losing season in four years, the Patriots clearly had to address the QB position after parting ways with Mac Jones. Even if Maye isn’t ready to start in 2024, the Pats have a safe bridge option in free agent pickup Jacoby Brissett.
