An AFC contender reportedly contacted the Seattle Seahawks to see if star wide receiver DK Metcalf was available in a trade.

Leading up to last week’s NFL Draft, several notable wide receivers were mentioned as possible trade candidates. This included Cincinnati Bengals star Tee Higgins and San Francisco 49ers standouts Branon Aiyuk and Tee Higgins, though DK Metcalf was not mentioned in such rumors.

Apparently, one receiver-needy team did their homework to see if a deal for Metcalf was possible.

According to a report from NFL insider Benjamin Allbright of KOA Colorado, the Pittsburgh Steelers “called” Seattle about Metcalf. Allbright stated that Pittsburgh also called about Aiyuk and Courtland Sutton of the Denver Broncos but were “rebuffed” by both teams.

Metcalf agreed to a three-year contract extension with Seattle in the 2022 offseason worth $72 million, keeping him under team control through the 2026 season.

Unlike Higgins, Metcalf hasn’t outright requested a trade from Seattle. Samuel did so from the 49ers two years ago before agreeing to an extension, while Aiyuk is about to enter the final year of his rookie contract.

So there’s no clear indicator that Seattle is looking to move on from Metcalf. With the 2024 NFL Draft over, it’s hard to envision GM John Scheider wanting to deal his top offensive player for a return that won’t help them in the short-term.

A DK Metcalf & Russell Wilson Reunion Would Be Epic

New Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson (signed to a one-year deal in free agency) and Metcalf were one of the best QB-WR duos from 2019 to 2021. In their three-year run together, Seattle qualified for the postseason twice, with Metcalf surpassing the 50-catch and 900-yard marks each year.

Pittsburgh needs another receiver after trading Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers, and Metcalf would have been the perfect target. Though it’s a longshot, there’s still time for GM Omar Khan to make a trade for a big-named receiver like Metcalf.
