San Antonio's Victor Wembanyama Soars to 1.3 Billion Views, Nearing NBA's Top Social Sensations LeBron and Curry

The hardwood’s been ablaze with the feats of one particular rookie, and the numbers are in to back it up. San Antonio Spurs’ sensation Victor Wembanyama has rocketed into the echelons of the NBA’s most-watched players, bringing in a staggering 1.3 billion views on social and digital platforms during the regular season.

He’s only been bested by the industry’s heavy hitters, LeBron James and Stephen Curry, who lead the pack with 1.9 and 1.7 billion views, respectively, as reported by NBA.com.

“Wemby mania” has not just gripped the fans, but has had a palpable influence on NBA’s social media engagement, even earning a spot on the league’s top five most-viewed plays list.

One of Wembanyama’s dunks wreaked such viral havoc it raked in 247 million views alone, according to KENS 5. On this feat, Derrick White, a former Spur now with the Boston Celtics, was on the receiving end of this rim-rattling showcase, and he made his intentions clear, saying, “I’m not an idiot,” White said, “I was hoping he would take another dribble and, then I could try to do that, but he picked it up, and I never saw it again. So, I was just trying to get out of the way. That was crazy.”

Other players rounding out the coveted list of most-viewed include Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks with 1.2 billion views, and the Brooklyn Nets’ Kyrie Irving, who brought in a cool 662 million. Not to be overlooked, Denver Nuggets’ center Nikola Jokic more than doubled his visibility from the last season, boasting 618 million views. Meanwhile, Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves marks his first appearance on this list, garnering 569 million views.
