Victor Wembanyama Prediction: ‘Best NBA Player Ever,’ With 2 ‘If’s’ – Trae Young
Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young has seen enough.
“He has all the intangibles to be the best player ever,” Young said late in the year.
This is not outrageous stuff being said about the 20-year-old, who totaled up all sorts of milestones throughout his rookie campaign.
Young did add a sort of “if,” however. Two of them, really.
“He’s gonna be a beast in this league as long as he can play,” Young said on the From the Point podcast. “His presence on the floor alone is impactful, and just on defense, offense, he can do pretty much everything. … He has all the intangibles to be the best player ever. The accolades and team accolades as his career goes on is what’s gonna determine that.”
Tucked into that remark about the the Frenchman, “if” No. 1: “As long as he can play.” Meaning, Wemby’s got to avoid injury. And “if” No. 2? Wemby can’t do it all by himself. Team success will contribute to his legacy … which is why it’s so important that the Spurs show assertiveness as soon as possible when it comes to roster building … with the Hawks’ Young being among the names the league is gossiping about.
