MANILA–Christian Standhardinger clarified on Saturday that he did not anymore want out of Ginebra.
While he admitted in an Instagram story that he once demanded a trade, he retracted from it after playing a stellar season with the Gin Kings this past year.
“Just to clarify, a year ago, I was open to being traded due to some dissatisfaction. However, after playing the whole season, I was keen on staying with Ginebra,” Standhardinger said.
The big man added that Coach Tim Cone even asked him if he wanted to stay with the team and he said yes, but on Friday, Cone called him to announce that he would be traded.
Standhardinger clarified that he did not have a hand in the trade despite his earlier demand.
“I want to emphasize that I had nothing to do with this decision as I was committed to finishing my contract with Ginebra,” the current MVP candidate said.
“I just want to clarify that I did not leave you, guys.”
Despite the clarification, Standhardinger reiterated that he respects Ginebra’s decision to let him go along with Stanley Pringle for Isaac Go and Stephen Holt.
