Kapamilya actress Dimples marks her first time doing action stunts via the action-drama series, The Iron Heart.

Dimples Romana shared that the primetime series, The Iron Heart, has helped her a lot in her postpartum recovery. She recently gave birth to her third child, Romana returned to acting via the Richard Gutierrez-starrer, where she plays the role of Selene, a woman of power and strength. The character allowed the talented Kapamilya actress to venture into the world of action, which is totally different from the usual roles she did in the past.

During our set visit to the taping locations in Cebu on February 6 and 7, Romana took the chance to articulate her thoughts on women doing stuff commonly done by men in movies or TV shows. A full-length action-drama series, The Iron Heart, inadvertently offered the versatile Kapamilya actress a platform to dive into the action genre.

Talking about the experience passionately, Romana said that she looks up to her best friend, Angel Locsin, who is widely known for her action-drama shows.

“Oh, it’s fun. You know I look up to Angel (Locsin)—she’s been doing it for such a long time ‘di ba. So, I was always there watching her, kasi lagi niya akong best friend eh,” she shared, recalling past projects she did with the award-winning Kapamilya star.

“But also in the same manner, I also look up to Charlize Theron doing The Old Guard, Italian Job. Also sina Angelina Jolie doing Tomb Raider, and she’s also a mom,” she added.

Romana recalled the time she attended awarding ceremonies overseas and how the experience reminded her of Filipinos’ tendency to [always] underscore women’s roles in the family and society.

Para sa akin, we really look beyond who they are. Feeling ko nga for a time parang…when we were going to the Asian Academy and IEmmys, tayo talaga ‘yung mahilig sa, like, I would introduce myself as a mom. ‘Yun, laging may correlation ‘yung what we are in the family, when in fact sa kanila hindi masyadong binabanggit ‘yun,” she shared.

Relating to her role in the series, The Iron Heart, Romana reiterated the importance of women in the society she moves in.

“Basically, outside of it all, it’s very important for us to look at capabilities natin. Lalo na ang mga kababaihan ngayon. Dati sasabihin ,mo, ‘babae ka, wag na’. Ngayon hindi, ‘babae yan’. So, nakakaproud kapag sinabi nila na ah babae ‘yan, katulad ng role ko as Selene.

“Hindi mo puwedeng sabihin na para siyang lalaki kasi, hindi siya parang lalaki. As in babaeng babae siya, and yet in-embrace niya ang femininity niya, and at the same time, she’s still very strong. So, there is strength in being a woman, even if you’re moving around a man’s world. That’s what I love most about the representation of Selene,” she emphasized on the role as a vital part in the show’s campaign to higlight women empowerment.

The actress shared that although the stunt and fight team of the show are extra-careful in engaging her in “difficult” action scenes, she is all willing to see where the character can still go in terms of action scenes. She also teased about her character’s true identity, noting that even she has no idea what motivations her character has.

The Iron Heart airs Mondays to Fridays on A2Z, TV5, Kapamilya Channel, Jeepney TV, and it also streams on Kapamilya Online Live and iWantTFC right after FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.
