Actress and singer Janella Salvador recently shared a personal revelation about her past “girl crush,” which inspired her viral ‘Hey You’ music video, during an interview on Yes FM Manila with radio host Lyka Barista on July 4.

Salvador expressed her gratitude to everyone involved in the creation of the music video, highlighting its significance as a gift to the LGBTQIA+ community.

“Hindi ko ito magagawa if not for the people who supported me dito sa music video…the whole production team, actually. Most of them are my friends and when I told them about the project, na-excite sila. A lot of them are part of the [LGBTQ] community as well, so everyone got excited for it,” Salvador shared.

She also thanked her fans, saying, “And of course, ‘yung mga vadeng na tuloy-tuloy na nag-stream ng ‘Hey You’ kaya umabot sa trending list ng YouTube, thank you so much!”

 

When asked by Barista if she ever had a crush on another woman, Salvador candidly responded, “Of course!”

“Hindi mabubuhay ang [‘Hey You’] music video [kung hindi]. Since it was my concept, I wanted it to be as personal as possible,” she explained. Salvador added, “Eh galing akong all girls school, so ‘yun ang nilagay ko sa music video.”

Salvador’s surprise release of the music video during Pride Month delighted fans, featuring actress Jane De Leon as her love interest. The video portrays two classmates with secret feelings for each other until Jane makes the first move, leading to a series of romantic moments. The video ends with Salvador’s message: “Love is love, regardless of who it finds.”

When asked for her advice to those in girl love (GL) relationships who might be hesitant to come out, Salvador emphasized the importance of love equality.

“I think in this day and age, kung hindi ka pa rin okay sa ganun, what are you even doing? Like, why?” Salvador questioned.

“Wala namang problema eh, love is love. Love is for everybody and you can love whoever you want to love and be attracted to who you wanna be attracted to,” she continued.

“There’s nothing wrong with that,” she concluded.
