‘Maraming beses din kami nag-fail.’ Jennylyn Mercado reflects on business lessons

Award-winning actress Jennylyn Mercado has also built a name as a businesswoman.

After a decade in the beauty industry, she reintroduced her salon, now named Dyln Style Lounge, during a relaunch event on November 30 in Maginhawa St., Quezon City.

The salon’s new name honors her two-year-old daughter, Dylan Jayde, marking a fresh chapter for the business formerly known as Fit & Form.

Jennylyn revealed the salon initially started as a wellness center co-owned with a partner. However, she decided to pivot after facing setbacks.

“Originally, wellness center dapat siya. May ka-partner ako noon, pero iniwan ako. Ginawa ko na lang siyang salon, and now, ten years na siya. Ako na lang mag-isa, and it’s better this way. Mas organized at sariling business ko na talaga,” she shared.

Running the salon solo allowed Jennylyn to infuse her personal touch and prioritize the high-quality services she desires for her clients.

Jennylyn acknowledged the ups and downs of managing a business.

“Maraming beses din kami nag-fail. Hindi naman laging puno ang salon. Pero importante, hindi tumitigil sa pag-iisip ng bago, tulad ng upgraded services. Trust and quality are crucial to keeping customers,” she explained.

Her commitment to quality extends to ensuring customer safety.

“Bawat service namin, may testing muna. Ako mismo nagte-test bago i-offer sa iba. Sa IV drips, naka-registered nurse kami, and may skin test bago mag-proceed. Health ang pinag-uusapan, kaya dapat walang room for error,” she emphasized.

Jennylyn also stressed the importance of being cautious, especially when entering partnerships, referencing recent legal troubles involving other celebrities.

“Kailangan talaga ng due diligence. Huwag basta papasok sa isang business na hindi mo alam. Ako, metikuloso sa ganyan. Buti na lang, may legal team akong maaasahan. Kung kaya mag-isa, mas mabuti para walang gulo,” she advised.

Together with her husband, actor Dennis Trillo, Jennylyn gave the salon a more personal touch by renaming it after their daughter. Located on Maginhawa Street, Dyln Style Lounge offers a range of hair, nails, and aesthetic treatments.

The salon is now open for franchise opportunities, signaling the couple’s vision for expansion.
