Hammerstone Studios’ Alex Lebovici teases the upcoming thriller, Flight Risk, starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Mel Gibson.

Flight Risk will be one of the first movies Mel Gibson has directed since Hacksaw Ridge. Hammerstone Studios’ Alex Lebovici, a producer on Flight Risk, recently teased what fans can expect from the upcoming thriller, which stars Mark Wahlberg.

In an interview with MovieWeb to promote Boy Kills World, Lebovici revealed that he initially met with Gibson about a different project.

“It was funny,” he explained. “So I came to Mel with a different project. And he’s like, ‘No, I don’t want that project. I have one that I’m really excited about.’ It’s just so zany and wild and action packed and cool, and Mark is fantastic.”

Lebovici added that Flight Risk “is definitely different than anything he’s ever done before. It’s very intimate, very contained.

I think he got into it during the pandemic, and just kind of like fell in love with it. And for good reason. It’s just a wild and fun thrill ride, and we’re excited for the world to see that one, too.”

Mark Wahlberg shares an exciting update on Sony’s sequel to his 2022 movie, Uncharted, which is based on the best-selling video game series.

What Is Mel Gibson Known For?

Gibson got his start in the industry as an actor, with his breakout role being Max Rockatansky in George Miller’s 1979 dystopian action film, Mad Max.

He reprised the role for Miller’s first two sequels — Mad Max 2 (1981) and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) — with Tom Hardy succeeding him as Max for the 2015 sequel, Mad Max: Fury Road.

He is also known for playing Martin Riggs in the Lethal Weapon franchise and, more recently, Kurt Mayron in Daddy’s Home 2 (2017), Chris Cringle in Fatman (2020), and Cormac in The Continental limited series.

Although Gibson’s directorial debut, 1993’s The Man Without a Face, was positively received by most critics, the second movie he directed, 1995’s Braveheart, garnered him critical acclaim and won him Best Director at the 68th Academy Awards.

He has since directed three further features — The Passion of the Christ (2004), Apocalypto (2006), and Hacksaw Ridge (2016). Besides Flight Risk, upcoming directorial efforts for Gibson include the long-awaited Passion of the Christ sequel, Resurrection – Chapter I, which will be released in April 2025.

Mark Wahlberg speaks about his experience filming The Departed, including the tension between him and the film’s director Martin Scorsese.

What Is Flight Risk About?

The first trailer for Flight Risk premiered at CinemaCon 2024 but has not been publicly released at the time of writing.

Based on written descriptions of what was shown, the movie follows Wahlberg’s Daryl Booth, a “balding and psychotic” hitman, who “tricks a federal agent into allowing him to pilot a plane carrying an informant out of a remote area.”

Topher Grace, known for starring in That ’70s Show and Spider-Man 3, plays the informant, while Downton Abbey and Boy Kills World star Michelle Dockery stars as the FBI agent.

Flight Risk does not yet have a release date.
