However, according to director Adam Wingard, “Face Off 2” is facing difficulties and may not be released in the near future because the film crew is struggling with ideas and the script.

The original theme of the movie is a unique and creative idea, so writing the sequel is quite challenging. As the director of the film shared:

“I and screenwriter Simon Barrett are still actively completing the script for this movie. Basically, there have been times when we completed the final draft of the film and started the production process.

But then we had to pause everything and start writing the script from scratch. So I’m not sure if that will be the next movie I make. But it’s definitely one of my top priorities right now when writing the script.”

Adam Wingard To Give Facelift To 'Face/Off' Remake At Paramount

According to the director of the original “Face Off” (1997), John Woo, he had proposed to the producers that “Face Off 2” could be a story about a body swap between two women. However, the film company overlooked his idea.

Furthermore, in China, after the movie “Face Off” was screened, it inspired screenwriter Mach Chieu Huy to write the popular movie “Infernal Affairs”. Mach Chieu Huy shared that he liked the idea of swapping identities in “Face Off” but thought that the facial surgery part in Ngô Vũ Sâm’s film was unrealistic.

Therefore, it led him to come up with the idea for his movie “Infernal Affairs”. “Infernal Affairs” then exported back to Hollywood in 2006 when director Martin Scorsese remade the film into a Hollywood version called “The Departed”. “The Departed” then won the two most important awards, “Best Picture” and “Best Director”, at the Oscars that year.
