Veteran TV host Willie Revillame made headlines after cutting a call short with a ‘Wil To Win’ contestant who admitted to watching GMA Network’s ‘Family Feud’ instead of his show.
In the viral video, Revillame was in the middle of his usual call-in segment, where he reaches out to viewers for a chance to win prizes. However, when the contestant asked which show was calling, Revillame turned the question around, asking what show they were currently watching.
The contestant innocently responded that they were watching ‘Family Feud’ on GMA Network. Upon learning this, Revillame decided to end the call, saying, “Ah, ganoon ba? Family Feud? Eh sayang po, Wil To Win ‘to. Salamat po. Sayang po, sana nagwi-Wil To Win kayo… Enjoy watching Family Feud, ba-bye,” before hanging up.
Revillame later explained that the contestant had previously written to the show, hoping to win a cash prize. He humorously remarked, “Eh Family Feud pala pinapanood niya ta’s bibigyan ko pa siya ng P50,000. Eh doon na lang siya manood, ’di ba?”
This incident comes after Revillame made comments appearing to critique rival shows, emphasizing that ‘Wil To Win’ is an original concept tailored specifically for his audience. “Ang importante ang show na ‘to ay original. Inisip ‘to para sa inyo. Hindi ‘to binibili sa ibang bansa,” he said, likely referencing Family Feud, which is based on the American game show format and hosted by Dingdong Dantes.
The rivalry between the two shows has been underscored by recent NUTAM People Ratings (Nielsen Phils TAM) from July 15, showing ‘Family Feud’ leading with a 9.6% rating compared to ‘Wil To Win’s’ 2.7%. Despite this, TV5 has highlighted that ‘Wil To Win’ continues to be the top performer in its 5:00 to 6:30 PM timeslot in 2024.
‘Wil To Win’ marks Revillame’s return to TV5, where he previously hosted popular shows like ‘Willing Willie,’ ‘Wil Time Bigtime,’ and ‘Wowowillie’ from October 2010 to October 2013.
