Jake Paul clashed with his girlfriend after revealing the tattoo he would get the week he fights Mike Tyson.
Last month it was announced that Paul, a Youtuber-turned-boxer with ten professional fights to his name, would be taking on former unified world champion Tyson in a boxing match at the AT&T Arena in Texas.
Tyson, who is 30 years older than his opponent, is among the greatest boxers of all time and the first heavyweight to simultaneously hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles. He has not fought in a competitive bought since 2005, however.
Ahead of the fight, Paul admitted he is considering getting a face tattoo, in homage to Tyson’s iconic ink that was done days before a 2003 fight with Clifford Etienne.
Speaking on his podcast ‘BS with Jake Paul’, the 27-year-old said: “I’m thinking about getting a face-tat on the week of my fight.”
Paul’s girlfriend, Jutta Leerdam, who is a world champion speed skater, replied: “Well I don’t think that’s a great idea.”
Paul continued: “I’m not going to get the Tyson one, but Tyson got his legendary tattoo – I’m just like f*** it. Why not?
“Because the story behind Tyson’s face tat is that it was a Wednesday of his fight week and he just got it, and he showed up to the presser the next day with the face tat and he didn’t tell anybody.
“So I’m thinking about doing that in honour.”
Leerdam diplomatically responded: “Well you don’t have to, babe. You’re getting into your sophisticated era. No babe you don’t need it.”
Paul replied: “But I could always just put make-up over it. This is why I don’t even know if I should have brought it up. I’m just going to make this decision for me if I’m going to do it.”
When Leerdam questioned what would happen if she didn’t like the proposed face tattoo, Paul said: “Do you remember when I had the Tyson one – the make-up one? You liked it.”
Leerdam replied: “Yeah it looked good for like a day. But it wasn’t good after that.”
