She inspired the tune after making a comment in the studio
Remember that time the world lost its mind because Beyonce had featured Blue Ivy on one of her songs? Or, more recently when Adele dropped her new song ‘My Little Love’ which has snippets of conversations with her little boy on it.
Well, Eminem had been doing it as far back as 1999.
While he recorded daughter Hailie’s (yes, the one who’s 26 now) baby noises for ’97 Bonnie & Clyde’, she actually sang on his 2002 track ‘My Dad’s Gone Crazy’.
The song doesn’t only feature Hailie but she also was the inspiration behind it after complaining that she thought her dad had ‘gone crazy’ when she was running around the studio one day.
Explaining the moment in an interview, 49-year-old Eminem said: “Me and [Dr.] Dre were working together, and Hailie was running around the studio and she was like, ‘Somebody please help me! I think my dad’s gone crazy!’
“Instantly that locked in with a beat we’d made the day before. I had her go in the booth and say it. When she opens up, she’s just like her dad in a lot of aspects. I just told her what to say and she nailed it, the first take.”
You can listen to the song here:
The tune begins with a voiceover that says: “Hello boys and girls, today we’re going to talk about father and daughter relationships. Do you have a daddy? I’ll bet you do.”
Hailie can then be heard asking: “Daddy what are you doing?” Before the father and daughter duo both say at the same time: “Okay then. Everybody, listen up.”
Eminem raps the verses with a bit of input now and then from Hailie saying things such as: “My dad’s lost it,” and “I think my dad’s gone crazy.”
The final line in the song features Hailie adorably giggling before adding: “You’re funny daddy.”
Before releasing ‘My Dad’s Gone Crazy’, Hailie featured on ’97 Bonnie & Clyde’ from 1999 which is about Eminem’s relationship with Hailie’s mum, Kim.
The song is actually about Eminem killing Kim before enlisting his daughter to help him get rid of the body.
Speaking about what Kim thought about their daughter’s involvement, he previously explained: “I lied to Kim and told her I was taking Hailie to Chuck E. Cheese that day.
“But I took her to the studio. When she found out I used our daughter to write a song about killing her, she f****** blew. We had just got back together for a couple of weeks. Then I played her the song, and she bugged the f*** out.”
