According to recent reports by analyst and NBA insider for ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski, Cleveland Cavaliers star player Donovan Mitchell will be out for the remainder of the season due to his injuries. Following a five-game road trip, the Cleveland Cavaliers will play the Los Angeles Clippers tonight in their homeland.

This is their second meeting of the season; the Clippers lost 118-108 the previous time around on January 29. Donovan Mitchell led them to victory, scoring 28 points and dishing out 12 assists.

However, it is unlikely that the Cavaliers will sweep. Mitchell has struggled to regain the same level of performance since being out at the beginning of March with a knee injury and missing time due to a nose fracture.

Mitchell has only averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 2.3 three-pointers, 1.5 steals, and 0.8 blocks in 32.2 minutes across six games since March 13. He’s also shot 33.3% from the field and 30.4% from beyond the arc.

Donovan Mitchell’s absence will greatly impact the Cavaliers

Mitchell’s absence for the rest of the season is being attributed to injury management, so it’s likely that he isn’t suffering from a relapse and is simply taking a break before starting his play next season.

In their respective conferences, the Clippers and Cavaliers are unquestionable playoff winners. The Cavaliers now hold the third spot in the Eastern Conference, trailing only the Milwaukee Bucks by one victory and two losses.

Mitchell’s absence will greatly impact the Cavaliers; it was a great loss for his team. Cavaliers should make some strategy to compensate for the loss of Mitchell for the remainder of the season.

They have a 7-3 record in their past ten games. Their high win ratio in Mitchell’s absence is mostly due to their defensive strength, which ranks eighth in the league with 4.3 blocks and 7.3 steals per game.
