Despite being an owner, president, and general manager, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones might not understand how the NFL Draft works.

Jones bought the Cowboys way back in 1989, yet seemed to have no clue about the seeding process while speaking to reporters heading into this year’s event.

The 81-year-old previously claimed the team would be “all-in” this offseason, and they’ve hardly lived up to that. Still, there’s an opportunity to ring in some significant changes when the draft comes around this week.

America’s Team has seven picks in 2024 and will go at No. 24 in the first round on Thursday. According to longtime Clarence Hill Jr. of the Star-Telegram, Jones recently claimed the team got the 24th pick because they were the 24th-best team in the NFL last season.

Having gone into the postseason with a 12-5 record, Dallas had the best record of any team to lose in the first round, which put them further than other teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins, and Los Angeles Rams in the draft order.

Jerry Jones Had Fans Losing It On Social Media

Meanwhile, the Cowboys have some major holes that need plugging this offseason and will likely use the draft in that regard.

The team’s offensive line requires some strengthening following Tyler Biadasz’s and Tyron Smith’s departures. The running back position is also threadbare as leading rusher Tony Pollard is now with the Tennesee Titans.

They could be spoilt for choice with OL options in the upcoming draft, as several top linemen are coming through in 2024.
