The Lakers ace LeBron James is one of the most decorated stars in the world of basketball. He had a great but not an easy start to his journey in the NBA. He went straight from a high school basketball player to a professional baller.

Bron never got the opportunity to play college basketball and he sometimes talks about this phase of athletic life he missed. Recently the Lakers star revealed that he has a desire to play for the Cincinnati Bearcats.

LeBron James wanted to play for Bob Huggins’ Cincinnati Bearcats

On the “Mind the Game” podcast the four-time NBA champion and the Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James revealed that he had the desire to play for the Cincinnati Bearcats. Bron never got an opportunity to play college-level basketball, so his statements gave the fans a great what-if scenario to talk about.

I loved Cincinnati. I remember as a kid watching it. When I was growing up I wanted to go to Cincinnati because of the uniforms and because of Huggs,” said James. He revealed that he loved the uniform and it was one of the reasons that made him want to play for them. However, his prime reason for desiring to play for them was the head coach of the Bearcats at that time, Bob Huggins.

Why does LeBron not like college basketball?

LeBron James went pro straight coming out of high school, he never experienced the NCAA. However, two years after he declared for the draft, a new rule came into action that barred athletes below the age of 19 from entering the NBA draft. That made it compulsory for the players to play at least one year of college basketball without pay.

James however, has expressed his displeasure with the system and thinks that it is “corrupt“. “I am not a fan of the NCAA. I love watching March Madness. I think that is incredible. I am not a fan of how the kids do not benefit from any of this, so it is a fine line I have got a couple of boys that could be headed in that direction, so there are going to be some decisions that we as a family have to make,” said Bron.

Bron issued these statements in 2018 while he was still with the Cavs. He claimed that the system did not benefit the kids in any way. He gave the example of his sons highlighting that they could choose a career in professional basketball and there would be some decisions they would have go make as a family.
